BMW doesn't have a long history of supercars- that began and ended with the M1. Instead, the brand has long focused on grand tourers, and sports cars. Currently, the latter is the Z4, and the former is the M8. Both have had recent generational changes, and BMW have now revealed the M8 Convertible, the third different M8 they have shown, after the M8 Coupe and the M8 GTE racing car. Not only is this the first M8 convertible, but this is the first 8-Series convertible. The original 8-series (1990-1999) had a cabriolet and a M version in development, but both were canned for cost reasons.
The engine is the same 4.4L V8 as the coupe, putting out 600hp and 553Nm and accelerating the car to 100kmh in 3.2 seconds and to a top speed of 304kmh. There will also be a competition version with 17 more horsepower. It's as powerful as a M5. It also has a 8-speed automatic transmission that powers all four wheels, or two if you deactivate Dynamic Stability Control.
On the inside, the stylishness continues as there is carbon fiber trim with all-black upholstery inside. There are also several buttons that, in the words of Jeremy CLarkson, 'do many things'. However, one is most notable- the M-Mode button. You can select several different modes with it- road, sport, M and Track. There's also Dynamic mode. Dynamic mode is essentially BMW's equivalent of Ford's Drift Mode. You can drift the new M8!!!! You can option in a full speaker system to the regular 8-series but it is standard in the M8.

Overall, the M8 Convertible does not really look too much different to the regular model, which is a disappointment. The price will disappoint as well- it is so much more expensive than the similar M5: over US$40000 more expensive. That said, it is still a good looking car, and it has a V8 !!! There is stiff competition from Mercedes and Bentley, but ultimately if you can get over the price and the styling, this is an excellent car.
