As we approach Bastille Day, all things French will begin to pop up around the world. In the segment of the small SUV, this is most certainly the case, with Renault unveiling their competitor and the second-generation Peugeot 2008 being revealed. Let's begin with the Pug.

The style, just like the BMW 8 Series I covered a few days ago, is more evolution than revolution in terms of the previous generation, but that's probably the only similarity. As where the 8-Series is a sumptuous luxury car, the Pug is a small SUV. The new model doesn't just have petrol and diesel power, there will be an electric option as well. There is not so much information circulating on the car, but we know there will be a 1.2L 3cyl petrol engine and a 1.5L 4cyl diesel engine as well as the electic version. There are four trims: Active, Allure, GT Line and GT, all available with each engine choice. Generally, the Peugeot is an evolution of the first generation, with the electric version as the headline addition.

Let's move on to Renault. Their new compact SUV is an India-only car, but it is worth noting as it is a breath of fresh air, and is sort of halfway between the Captur and the Scenic. It's a car with the size of Captur and the number of seats of Scenic, basically. The Triber also does not have much information- even less than the Peugeot- but it could potentially spawn a new market.

Overall, these two may not be the absolute best of their class, but they both have a significant feature each. FOr the Peugeot, it is the e2008, for the Triber, it is the seating configuration. Watch out for these to become mainstream.
