So, the Supercars Championship begins this weekend and we've already seen the SuperTest where Will Davison took the fastest time, but with several teams using different checkpoints to hide their cards, it didn't tell fans too much. So, here's my preview for 2020.
Who has the most to prove?
It's probably going to be Walkinshaw. They've either signed Chaz Mostert because they can run at the front or because they are switching to BMW in 2022. If Chaz isn't running up the front, it looks like they could be in trouble.
Who will suprise this season?
Everyone is targeting the Top 10 seemingly so based on their expectations, nobody will overachieve. However, I think Fullwood will finish higher than thought and that Heimgartner and de Pasquale will break through this year.
Who wins the championship?
With McLaughlin having to balance the season with his IndyCar outing(s), and Whincup being followed wherever he goes by retirement rumours, I think that SVG is the only real choice for this year's title. I think a surprise like Waters, Reynolds or De Pasquale will be second, only just ahead of McLaughlin and Whincup.
When will the title be decided?
Final race, however SVG will effectively only have to finish to claim the title.
The Bathurst winner: Will Davison. For some reason I just feel like this combo will win. If I go on logic, I'd have to say Whincup/Lowndes or Reynolds/Brown.
The driver's championship:
1. 97 (van Gisbergen)
2. 17 (McLaughlin)
3. 9 (Reynolds)
4. 88 (Whincup)
5. 99 (de Pasquale)
6. 6 (Waters)
7. 12 (Coulthard)
8. 7 (Heimgartner)
9. 25 (Mostert)
10. 23 (Davison)
11. 5 (Holdsworth)
12. 55 (le Brocq)
13. 8 (percat)
14. 15 (Kelly)
15. 14 (Hazlewood)
16. 2 (Fullwood)
17. 20 (Pye)
18. 18 (Winterbottom)
19. 35 (Jacobson)
20. 19 (Courtney)
21. 3 (Jones)
22. 22 (Pither)
23. 4 (Smith)
24. 34 (Kostecki)
25. 34 (Goddard)
The team's championship:
1. Triple 8
2. DJR Team Penske
3. Tickford (6/23)
4. Erebus
5. Kelly Racing
6. WAU
7. Tickford (5/55)
8. BJR (8/14)
9. Team18
10. Matt Stone Racing
11. Team Sydney
12. BJR (3/4)
With 3rd-7th being split by a very tight margin.
