To begin this article, I will make a mention to those that are wondering what Sunday fixture Under The Hood is doing on a Thursday. I'm redoing the blog's timing channels in order for less content, but better content, to be able to be put out, with a reduction in number of articles and an increase in time spent on each. This means that Under the Hood will be moving to a rotating weekday slot, either Wednesday or Thursday as it is this week depending on whether a Lamborghini-esque reveal happens on the Tuesday or Wednesday. Anyway, let's jump in, as this week's car is a car that's just come to Forza Horizon 4: the Porsche 917. For this week, I will write a little about the car and then also look at the different liveries.
The 917 was concieved in response to the FIA's World Cahmpionship of Group 6 prototypes, with an engine limit of 3 litres. This attracted F1 teams who already had 3-litre engines like Matra, and an existing contender, Porsche, was forced to rejig its 910 entry. The replacement was the 917. Porsche developed the car and completed the 25 required in 18 months. After the homologation of it based on three complete cars and 22 other unfinished chassis was refused, Ferdinand Piech finished the other 22 and then asked the inspectors if they wanted to drive any. In 1969 the car was poor, but in 1970 and 1971, the cars dominated, leading to the 24 Hours of le Mans and the World Sportscar Championship in both 1970 and 1971.
But what this car is famous for is some of the liveries. Here they are:
Gulf Racing

Porsche Salzburg

Martini Racing 'Psychedelic Porsche'

'Pink Pig' (my fave!)

Martini Racing

And also, a mention to the can-am version of the 917, the wacky 917/30:

Thank you for reading Under The Hood this week. I have some more top quality content coming including another interview, and also a rather zany #SaturdayChill episode.
