The Holden FX, more correctly known as the Holden 48-215, is quite a famous car in Australia. It was the first Australian built car by Gm and the first ever Holden. Its story began in 1946 when five prototypes were hand-built in Detroit to style the all-Australian car. After two years of testing, the car's production began in April 1948 in the South Australian plant that Holden owned until they closed in Australia in 2017. The engines came from Fisherman's Bend in Victoria, though.

The next milestones occurred in September, when the first engine was started and the car was named 'Holden'. On 30 September, the first pilot car was completed, and the other ten were completed over the next week. On 29 November, the Holden was released and unveiled by Australian PM Ben Chifley.

What's not notable about the car is the car itself. What's notable is the culture that it fostered. The move FJ Holden (the FJ was a slightly upgraded version of the FX released in 1953) was released in 1977, and featured (who else) Frankie J. Holden. Also, there has been 70 years of Holdens as cult cars since, and maybe Ford wouldn't have even come had Holden not been begun. I'll leave you with the Efijy Concept from 2007, a homage to these cars.

I really enjoyed 'Under the Hood' this week. :)
