The length, width and breadth of motor racing categories in Australia is extremely large making rating them heard, but I think that it's worth a look at. So here are my favourites.
10. Australian GT
I'm a massive GT fan, and enjoy events such as the Bathurst 12 Hours and the N24. However, the series has suffered through mismanagement recently and the low grids recently are issues. Tony Quinn should get this category back up and running.
9. Trans-Am 2
The TA2 series has been blossoming recently and it certainly has more manufacturers and closer racing than the Supercars. It's featuring in Supercars supports in 2020 which should increase its position on the list.
8. Toyota 86
The 86s are the slowest car to make the list but they also provide extremely close racing, young stars and in the case of the Sandown round, big incidents. It's quite a good series.
7. S5000
This ranking is likely very controversial. This is another that will improve, but the low grids put a dampener on the rate, and also the fact that we haven't seen a full feature race yet due to the Alex Davison crash back in September.
6. Carrera Cup
Carrera Cup has provided Europe with Nick Foster, Jaxon Evans and Matt Campbell and Australia with some close racing and with some Supercars drivers such as Andre Heimgartner. Overall a fan favourite.
5. Super2
Super2 is the second tier of Supercars and is a natural stepping stone in most of the Supercars drivers' careers. Provides lots of entertainment and a glimpse in the future.
4. TCR
The TCR category has been a fan favourite this year with 11 manufacturers represented this season, and competitive racing overall despite the charge to the title by Will Brown. Like S5000, the AGP and fifth Bathurst event should definitely improve the category again in 2020.
3. TCM
The TCM category always has close racing, throwbacks to the past and cool cars. The category is also a fan favourite as so many of the older fans see this as a throwback to their youth. The introduction of cars like the XD Falcon and Commodore will only improve the car.
2. Sports Sedans
The Sports Sedans are amazing! I think that these cars are among the pinnacle of engineering for Australia. For those unaware, they have about 900hp, feature massive aero and loud noises. There's even a rotary Mazda RX7, as well as a Saab, a very well known, 11-time-champion Alfa Romeo GTV6 and an Aston Martin.
1. Supercars
Well, this is rather obvious. Supercars has been wracked with controversy this season, but the new aero homologation should get things back on track. It's still the pinnacle of Australian motorsport.
